Our Story
Besa is an Albanian word. It means a pledge, a promise you keep no matter what it costs you. It is the name on the bag, and it is the standard this company runs on.
The name
In Albanian tradition, a besa is a solemn oath. Your word is the contract, and keeping it is a matter of honor, not convenience. We named the company after it because coffee is a promise business: you pay for a bag you have not tasted yet, from a roaster you may never meet. The least we can do is keep our word about what is inside it.
The founder
Besa was founded by Josh Hebert, who started roasting with the hours his day job did not use. Early mornings, nights, and weekends. It still runs that way: small, deliberate, and personal. When you email Besa, you are emailing the person who roasted your coffee.
How we roast
We sell two coffees, both single origin. The Colombian Huila is a medium roast, all dark chocolate, caramel, and roasted hazelnut. The Ethiopian Yirgacheffe is a light-medium roast, brighter and more floral. Two coffees, done properly, instead of a long menu done halfway.
Nothing is roasted until you order it. Wholesale coffee is roasted with our partner roastery in Houston. Home orders are roasted in small batches by Josh himself. And every bag is a full pound, 16 ounces. Most roasters sell 12.
The standard
Fresh is not a slogan here, it is the whole operation. Your coffee is roasted after you order, dated, and shipped 1 to 2 days off the roast. If your first order does not win you over, our money-back guarantee makes it right. That is the besa.
